BACKGROUND

The aim of this study was to identify
  1. How many English National Health Service (NHS) Trusts with maternity services have a hIDVA programme;
  2. Which departments within the Trust they operate in;
  3. What format, content, and variation in hIDVA programmes exist;
  4. Key facilitators and barriers of implementation in maternity services.
METHODS
We conducted a national survey of English NHS Trusts with maternity services. We then hosted a workshop with 38 national key stakeholders to examine barriers and facilitators to hIDVA programme implementation.
SUMMARY OF FINDINGS
86 out of 124 Trusts (69%) with a maternity service responded to the survey. Just under 70% of services had a hIDVA programme in operation. The map here shows the spread of Trust with or without a hIDVA in their services.

Those with a hIDVA programme are shown in red and those without are shown in blue.

  • Governance and management support

Challenges that could potentially hinder the successful implementation of hIDVA programmes included:
  • hIDVA programme funding sustainability
